私にはひとつの想いがあります。
左官の技、左官という職業を次世代に胸を張って残したいという思いがあります。
コストや納期、手入れ等の面から、一般住宅の壁面にはクロスを用いるのが一般的になっています。
左官職人の仕事は少なくなってきました。厳しい時代です。
それでもこのすばらしき左官の技は、
その作品とともに、確実に次世代に残していかなければならないものだと思っています。
左官の代表的な作品、寺社仏閣、城、町屋etc･･･
その限られた世界の伝統の技は今までも大切に受け継がれてきました。
しかし、それだけではこの左官という職業は確実に縮小されていきます。
左官のもつ、自然のものでしか出せない風格、
鏝が生み出す多彩な表現力をもっと多くの人に知ってほしい。
手間と時間をかけるからこそ生まれる豊かさと温もりを感じてほしい。
そして、自然素材のもつ調湿・消臭・ウイルスなど有害物質の分解･･･
そんな、さまざまな優しさを感じてほしい。
左官をもっと身近に感じ、現代の生活に取り入れてもらうため、
古き良き物をそのまま押し付けるのではなく、
これからの人々にあった形式で提案することが私たちの役割だと考えています。
現代の技術は進んでいます。クロスの上からでも土や漆喰が塗れます。
クロスを張り替えようと思った方に、クロスの上から「塗る」という選択肢も
当たり前のようにもってもらうこと。
そこから気軽にはじめてもらえたらどうかと思います。
I have a hope.
A hope to pass down the techniques of Sakan(Japanese plastering), and Sakan as a career to the next generations with pride.
Because of its lower cost, shorter lead-time, and ease of maintenance, wallpaper has become the most common wall finishes in residentials compared to Sakan walls.
Thus, it has become a hard time for Sakan craftsman due to the decreasing demands.
Even then, I believe without a doubt that we have to pass down this incredible techniques and works of Sakan to the next generations.
Sakan’s tradition and culture has been succeeded and carefully maintained in temples, shrines, castles, Machi-ya (Japanese homes and stores from generations ago), etc..
However, if those are the only places that demand Sakan works, the career path of Sakan will continue to decrease for sure.
Sakan’s expression that can only be expressed with its natural materials, and its infinite characteristics that can only be created by trowels are what I hope for more people to be familiar with.
Because we spend time and effort in the works, Sakan can express its distinctive warmth.
And finally, we want people to feel its gentle functions such as humidity and odor control, ability to resist and decompose harmful bacteria, and so on.
For people to integrate and feel Sakan into their life styles, I believe that it is our mission to recommend Sakan in ways that best matches the modern life styles, and not just present it in ways that it always has been.
Current Sakan techniques have advanced enough so we can plaster over the existing wallpaper.
If anyone is considering to refinish their walls, I hope for people to come up with Sakan as an ordinary choice along with other choices like painting over or redoing the wallpapers.
That is my hope for Sakan, to be more common and close to modern life styles.
